Natasha Mushonga, London Youth

Natasha has recently completed an ILM Qualification in Mentoring with Striding Out.

"Rejuvenating, refreshing, a once in a life time experience, you will never be the same even in your frame of mind."

For Natasha the ILM experience has proven  to be  successful and enlightening -  as prior to this experience she didn’t even know such qualifications existed. Referred to the Mentoring programme through an organisation she volunteered with - Catch22 she seized the opportunity to gain an extra qualification in something she loved.

“I wasn’t aware such qualifications existed, until I got referred from Catch22”

Natasha, who is involved in youth work, had always considered mentoring as she wanted to help people on a one to one basis. As mentoring is all about helping people who feel stuck in their life with no direction as to where their next step should be in order to achieve their goals she knew this was the qualification she needed to enable her to gain the skills and techniques required to help someone go higher.

Natasha feels she is taking a great deal from this experience developing on existing skills like her listening to enable her to learn how to deepen your listening to involve your surroundings.

Natasha enjoyed the ILM experience and enjoyed spending time with Megan and Fiona, she found them to be insightful and clear in their teaching methods and as individuals were always helpful, patient, reliable and consistent, they made the journey a pleasure and always had examples with their coaching to ensure that they were fully understanding all the techniques being delivered to them.  Natasha believes this was the key to her success in understanding her role as a mentor and her continuing development as a mentor.

“It is a joy to undertake and very rewarding you will learn so much every step of the way, even things about yourself.”

Natasha enjoyed working with her personal mentor Rachel, she was grateful to have somebody who was with her every step of the way, seeing her through the challenges. Natasha has been inspired by Rachel and the way she pushed her to aim higher helping her to achieve things she hadn’t ever imagined were possible.

The experience of working with the group of other young people with a common interest was enjoyable for Natasha and she found it to be entertaining and thought provoking.
