Passion and Commitment

What they had in common was a passion to help other young people succeed in life and the commitment to learn new skills and put them into practice.

Programme Structure

  1. Workshops

We ran an experiential weekend residential workshop at London Youth’s outdoor activity outside London.

During this weekend the participants learned key coaching skills such as “the 3 levels of listening” and ‘powerful questions”. They learned about accountability and goal setting and confidentiality and the importance respect in a mentoring relationship.

Some of skills were not only practised in the classroom but also outside whilst they did the activities such as the high wires.

Following the weekend residential we ran 3 x 2 hour workshops focusing on different themes such values, perspectives, limiting beliefs and how to deal with emotions.

  1. 1:1 Mentoring Sessions

Our trainee mentors were matched up to a mentee, another young person, either in their own organisation or through the London Youth network.  They were required to undertake 6 x 30 minute mentoring sessions with their mentee and keep a reflective diary as part of the assessment.

  1. 1:1 Supervision Sessions

After each mentoring session, each trainee mentor had 1:1 support from a professional coach to help them with any issues, suggest other coaching skills to use and generally guide and encourage them.

The Experience

As you will see from the case studies below, this experience has not only given our mentors a fantastic coaching skill set to use in mentoring relationships, it has also helped them develop as people in their own lives.
