'Why do New Year’s Resolutions end before they even began?'ppc-seo-resolutions

Because, most New Year’s Resolutions address only half of the Resolution. Let me explain.

Find out how to succesully complete all your resolution goals this year by following simple tips and exercises.

Let’s take a common New Year’s Resolution – going to the gym.  This is a great ‘doing’ resolution.  It’s easy to write on paper, easy to tick off on a list and easy to track. The issue is that unfortunately it’s difficult to maintain.  Why? Because the focus of this resolution is placed on the action and the outcome, and not at all on who the person needs to ‘be’ in the world in order to commit to gong to the gym regularly.

Too often New Year’s Resolutions ignore the simple fact that ‘doing’ is only part of the equation.

What’s the solution to a New Year’s Resolution that just won’t stick? Create a Resolution focused on ‘being.’

Start with this simple visualisation and exercise (have paper and pen handy). You may want to read this article through first and then come back to the exercise:

  • Imagine that in front of you is a photo album of your life. Look back through your life...and remember a time (it could be a moment, an hour, a day) when you felt truly alive - like anything was possible. Take your time to find this memory. You will know when you have found it!
  • Once you have the memory – start exploring it. Imagine you are in the memory and answer the following questions:
  • What do you notice about yourself?
  • Who is you?
  • How do you feel physically?
  • What is your perception of the world around you?
  • What are some things that most stand out for you about this time? What’s a word you would use to describe yourself in this moment?

Now answer the following questions with paper and pen:

  • In order to live the life I want in 2011...
  • Where will I need to focus my attention?
  • What beliefs and programming will I need to let go of or change?
  • How will I want move through the world?

Now take some time and write a New Year’s Resolution focused NOT on what you need to ‘do’, but focused on who you want to be.
