Unwilling to Commit ...To Your Business?

Keeping The Spark Alive

BusinessChecklist2

There are probably over one hundred reasons for why people are unwilling to get into a relationship; the top ten also apply to why people are scared of starting a business. Read on to find out the top ten deterrents when it comes to starting your very own business. The good news is, that business coaching can help you tackle these barriers.

1. “You Both (you and your business) Get Less Challenging”

As you and your business get to know each other, the “challenge” of everything seems to dissipate. There is less uncertainty and the unknown becomes easy.

Our human nature reaches for challenge and as we lose this, we begin to take it for granted and tend to not work as hard.

2. “Life Gets More Challenging”

When you start a business, life gets more challenging. There are suddenly way more responsibilities than you could have ever imagined. You find yourself swimming around papers at work, and at home. The simple task of making yourself breakfast suddenly becomes tiresome and unnecessary. You let most elements of your life “go” and feel bad about it, yet have no time to make a change.

3. “The Spark Turns Into A Flat Line”

You know those initial sparks of a relationship? Similarly, when you first start a business, you have sparks, butterflies and fire everywhere. It’s exciting – new – fresh! However, there comes a point when the sparks turn into a plateau. You “settle” into the business and lose the element of new and fresh. You flat line.

4. “You Get A Little Complacent”

Once your business is up and running and cash flow is secured, you end up becoming complacent with the ways things are. You choose to accept some of the “bad parts”, rather than viewing them as a challenge to overcome. You get stuck, in a rut.

5. “The Stakes Get Higher And Higher”

As the business grows and you become more and more dependent on the income, lifestyle and ownership, the harder it is to let go of it. The thought of “breaking up” with your business is unimaginable. It is much easier to put your business to rest before you register yourself as a company and start earning income. No one wants to grow a business and then just let it die.

6. “You Have To Make Sacrifices”

Successful business is about choice. Once you are a business owner, CEO or chairman your role is crucial and it is almost impossible to tear yourself away from it. So, you “prioritise” and the list of what you will do over the weekends becomes shorter and shorter as you are forced to make sacrifices you never thought you would have to make.

7. “You Second Guess”

There is a moment in every business owners life where they think, “Did I make the right choice?” You may lose sleep over it. It’s inevitable.

8. “You make Group Decisions”

We all love to make decisions on your own – based on what WE want. However, suddenly you find yourself in a position of making choices based on what is not only best for you, but also your business. You need not consult your business (as I am not sure it would have much to say), but you keep it in the back of your mind every time you need to make a big decision.

9. “You're Stranded on An Island”

It can be difficult to avoid but you know that feeling of being stranded on an island with your loved one? You just want to stay in bed “forever”. Well, most business owners find themselves at the office before 6am. They also find themselves working until they shut their eyes, and even when they aren’t “working” they are thinking about work. It feels impossible NOT to be on an island together.

10. “You Fight Temptation”

Sometimes you will have moments where you want to start a new business, take over someone else’s business or even, go and work for someone else. But if you want to be successful, you must resist this temptation.

As a Business coach, I work with a lot of people around these issues. However, I am certain that it does not need to be this way. If you are interested in seeing how coaching could impact your business (and your life!), please click HERE.
