Summer 2006 Extreme Weekend brought together 14 enthusiastic young entrepreneurs who decided to take up the challenge to push their boundaries and to learn from their peers.

We hired a beautiful cottage in the Cotswolds, with all the facilities we could ever need and far enough from work and any other distractions. The weekend was structured with different activities throughout the 3 days to give everyone an opportunity to develop leadership and team working skills. There were people from all over the UK, from different backgrounds and with different skills, but with one similar characteristic: all driven by their entrepreneurial spirit.

The activities ranged from a live Marketing Research Project for the local Council, one to one coaching sessions, cooking, yoga to professional massages, all designed to develop skills in one way or the other.

'It was very relaxing and supportive environment. The coaching and facilitation was excellent. Zoe

'I am aware of more different aspects of leadership and group dynamics, and Ive realised that vision, evolution and growth are paramount not only to a start up business, but also for an established business' Sultana

'Its an excellent concept. I really enjoyed it. Ive taken a greater appreciation for other peoples points of views' Alex

'Very positive. The team was very supportive and the coaching was really constructive' Hayzel

'Its been great to learn from other people and to take time out. It has been very useful and it was great fun' Faisal

Each Team had a dedicated business coach to guide their personal development, Striding Out Business Coach Heather Wilkinson says By the end of the weekend, you could already feel how people had developed skills and knowledge over the 3 days. During the brainstorming and analysis stage of the day, it was very interesting to see how people from different professional backgrounds were applying their knowledge in a different context, how some natural leaders emerged at different stages depending on their expertise and how group dynamics and team personalities were visible in every member of the team, which in most cases, really complemented each other to obtain a rather visionary, non conventional solution.'

Overall, there was a shared feeling of reflection, everyone had learnt so much from their peers, everyone had a chance to mentor and teach others, as well as network in a supportive and relaxed atmosphere and most of all, to have fun! All the participants took some of that knowledge back into their workplace and routines, over and above new leadership and team working skills, but a whole range of other skills, which will help them to continue in their journey as entrepreneurs.
